Motorpoint provides lifeline following price hike at pumps

2nd October 2007 Print
Prices at the pump for both petrol and diesel fuel edged ever closer to the £1 a litre mark yesterday, as the Government’s planned rise in fuel duty by 2p a litre came into force. With this second tax increase of the year putting added pressure on the wallets of motorists, this means many are looking to make even further savings when considering the purchase of a vehicle.

Motorpoint, the UK’s largest car supermarket, is ideally placed to help consumers with the ever-worsening fuel bill thanks to their extensive range of new and used cars and commercial vehicles, providing large discounts off of manufacturer list prices. With the recent introduction of the new ’57 registration, there are many great value vehicles across the retailer’s five sites in the UK (in Burnley, Derby, Glasgow, Peterborough, and Newport, South Wales), meaning that there is something for everyone.

These include a brand new Renault Grand Espace priced at £17,999, a saving of nearly £8,000, a Volkswagen Toureg, costing £22,999, a saving over £12,000, and the new stylish Alfa Romeo Spider convertible, also at £22,999, equating to a saving of over £4,000.

Commenting on the upward trend in pump prices, David Shelton, Managing Director of Motorpoint, explains: “In this increasingly volatile environment, and with further fuel rises on the way, we are seeing an increasing number of consumers looking to take advantage of the large savings which we offer. Many are feeling the pinch, especially at a time when fuel consumption traditionally rises as we approach the winter. Thanks to our competitively price vehicles, we are in a prime position to be able to offer motorists great value during this period of uncertainty.”
