Which? teams up with TyreSafe to support Tyre Safety Month

9th October 2007 Print
Tyre Safety Month, which started last week, has received strong backing from Which? the consumer magazine, which is offering all visitors to their website (which.co.uk) a free-to-view copy throughout October of their Best Buy Tyre Report published earlier this year. The report contains useful tyre safety information together with details of tests on 82 premium and economy tyres. The report is also accessed via the TyreSafe website at tyresafe.org. The road safety initiative, created by TyreSafe – the UK’s foremost tyre safety organisation – has received support from the Department for Transport, all major tyre companies and tyre retailers, VW and Kia dealers together with other road safety organisations.

Richard Headland, Which? Motoring editor, said: “Tyre Safety Month is an excellent idea, designed to raise drivers’ awareness of the importance of regularly checking their tyres. Our Best Buy Report will help drivers choose the safest possible replacement tyres – those which have proved themselves in our exhaustive, independent tests – and at the best price. This is especially timely, as winter draws in and slippery conditions prevail, to remind drivers how important it is to maintain their tyres in a safe condition”.

At the start of this important campaign TyreSafe reported that almost 75% of cars on UK roads have tyres that are under-inflated so checking the correct pressures is vital. To help this process, visitors to the TyreSafe website on tyresafe.org can take advantage of a free pressure check. Just pop in the car’s registration and the correct tyre pressure is displayed.

Tyre retailers, VW and Kia dealers are supporting the initiative and during October will be offering free tyre safety and pressure checks as will all major tyre retailers together with independent dealers displaying TyreSafe posters. The objective of the campaign is to get drivers to become more tyre aware and check their tyres more regularly.
