Fast cars and fast food, cooked in 60 seconds

On the first Sunday of the month, from March until October 2007, a particular vehicle theme added to the Breakfast Club proceedings, and last weekend it was the turn of the big block V8s and Detroit styling, with a selection of the finest Americana on show.
The motoring culture and heritage of America was celebrated with a varied display of machinery from the other side of the pond, as well as a tribute to one of the legendary American motoring films of our generation, Gone in 60 Seconds. The challenge was to assemble as many of the 50 cars as possible that starred in the 2000 re-make of the cult film. Within the cast was everything from a Jaguar XJ220 to a Toyota Land Cruiser, a Dodge Viper GTS to a Volvo S80, and of course, the star of the film, a Shelby Mustang GT500, known as Eleanor.
Although the Breakfast Club did not quite manage to achieve what Nicholas Cage & Co did and get all 50 cars together, we were under strict instructions not to steal any vehicles, unlike our Hollywood counterparts. Nonetheless we successfully assembled a fitting homage to this iconic piece of cinema, without getting anyone arrested.
The October event signified the end of a truly successful and memorable 2007 Goodwood Breakfast Club season. Rest assured that work is already progressing on some fun ideas and themes for the Breakfast Club’s return in March 2008. Final dates and themes will be announced shortly, but in the meantime please keep an eye out for updates and further details about the Breakfast Club on the Goodwood website at: goodwood.co.uk/breakfastclub.
