Peak Performance go the extra mile in MPG Marathon
James Sutherland, managing director of Derbyshire based, award winning advanced driver training and driving risk management solutions provider, Peak Performance and the company’s strategic partnership manager Richard Hill, took their second consecutive victory in the annual AA/ALD Automotive MPG Marathon, which sees competitors battling to shatter the manufacturer official economy figures by the largest amount over a challenging 330-mile route. The course, which extended from the AA Headquarters in Basingstoke to the Devon town of Torquay, put 30 cars and vans through their paces in every day motoring environments including driving on motorways, in traffic, and on country lanes. After claiming overall victory in a diesel variant of the Toyota Aygo in the 2006 competition with an impressive fuel economy figure of 83 mpg, the green team from Peak Performance once again topped the classification, but this time with the Japanese marque’s petrol-powered version of the same city car, returning an impressive fuel consumption figure of 78.39 mpg, nearly 28% higher than that quoted by Toyota.
Achieving the same winning level of fuel consumption, James and Richard would be able to drive the equivalent distance from Southampton to Gateshead; or complete the 274 laps of the Brands Hatch Indy motor racing circuit using just over half of the car’s 35-litre fuel tank capacity!
Peak Performance has already trained thousands of fleet drivers on how to drive more safely, smoothly and economically thereby improving their safe driving skills as well as reducing fuel consumption through their Econodrive programme, James explains: “Our achievement is a clear demonstration of the benefits which effective driver training can have if company drivers are aware of the impact of a smoother and safer driving style. With an improved technique, this not only saves fleet operators thousands of pounds every year in the cost of fuel, but also reduces the level of emissions and carbon footprint for which businesses are becoming increasingly accountable.” Peak Performance is experiencing and increasing demand from companies wishing to take advantage of the Econodrive programme and the benefits can be achieved by drivers of all levels and competences within a company.
