GEM Support Air Ambulance Rescue Services

24th October 2007 Print
GEM Motoring Assist has announced that it is supporting air ambulances to reach the injured and ill in the first few vital minutes of an emergency.

Formerly known as the Guild of Experienced Motorists the road safety champion says it has initially formed a partnership with Essex Air Ambulance, helping with the promotion of its amazing life-saving work.

Already it has sponsored a charity run by 4,500 motorcyclists across Essex from Ford Dunton Technical Centre to historic Harwich which raised around £33,000 for the Essex Air Ambulance Trust.

Air ambulances carry doctors and sophisticated equipment right into the heart of any incident and can air lift a casualty to hospital.

David Williams, Chief Executive of GEM, said: “More than 8,500 missions have been flown since the Essex service was commissioned and the helicopter used for the work costs in excess of £105,000 each month to run. It receives no Government or National Lottery funding relying on donations.”

“We have therefore agreed to become an affinity partner of the Essex Trust and will be offering a similar arrangement to air ambulance trusts throughout the country. We hope that the initiative will be of mutual benefit to GEM as we work to prevent road accidents and to the Air Ambulance services who deal with those who are tragically involved in crashes.”

GEM provides a number of services for motorists and works to promote road safety for all road users by producing free informative leaflets, sponsoring research projects and acknowledging those that work for a better road environment.
