Girls guide to selling used cars

28th October 2007 Print
Women are losing out on millions of pounds each year because they’re unnecessarily frightened of selling their cars privately, according to a report from evecars.com, the motoring website for women. Worried about the pitfalls of a private sale, thousands of women simply accept the cut-throat prices of a local dealership instead.

Alex Jenner-Fust, evecars.com editor, said “Convenience doesn’t come cheap: consumers could make more by selling their second-hand car privately. It may seem a daunting prospect, but by taking a few simple precautions and investing a couple of extra hours in cleaning and research, sellers can add hundreds of pounds to the value of their car. Our five-point guide and downloadable checklist make the job easy.

With over 7.5 million used cars sold in the UK every year - almost three times more than new cars - and women influencing up to 80% of car-buying decisions, we want to help them reap the benefits when selling a car, too."

The evecars.com five-point guide to selling your car
1. Name your price & clean up
2. Write a winning advert
3. Test drive safely
4. No-nonsense negotiations
5. Beware of scams

“If all this seems too much like hard work, and owners want to take the easier route of selling to a dealership or part-exchanging the car, then it’s vital to research, research, research. Be aware of how much the car is worth and haggle hard. Remember, convenience costs," added Alex Jenner-Fust.
