BP Ultimate fuels Sporting Bears’ charitable Dream Rides
Fundraising club The Sporting Bears has already got a head start for this year’s Classic Motor Show, held at Birmingham’s NEC from Friday 9th to Sunday 11th November, with sponsorship by BP Ultimate fuel. Sporting Bears offer visitors ‘Dream Rides’ – a ten-mile ride as a passenger in one of the club members’ amazing cars in exchange for a donation to a children’s charity. BP Ultimate will provide 1,000 litres of fuel over the three days to ensure that every penny possible goes into the collection tins. The cars available for Dream Rides vary each day but the club boasts a stunning collection which includes vehicles ranging from a 1936 Lagonda to a Ferrari F40, Triumphs and E-Type Jaguars to Vintage Bentleys, Porsches and Lamborghinis. The ride you can have depends on how much you wish to donate with drivers accepting anything from £15 for a ride in a mainstream classic up to £85 for a rare supercar. As the drivers know that for some visitors this is the closest they will get to their dream car, they won’t sell themselves or their cars short!
The Sporting Bears is a club of classic motoring enthusiasts who travel all over the country raising money for UK children’s charities. Each member of the Bears gives up their time, car and petrol for free so that every penny raised from a Dream Ride goes to helping children have a better life. Over the past 18 years, the Sporting Bears have raised around £600,000 and supported charities such as Princess of Wales Children’s Hospital, NSPCC and many more.
The support of BP Ultimate will allow the drivers to give more rides without any additional financial impact to their own pockets which will be needed as at the 2006 show, the Bears raised a staggering £35,800 through their rides and broke all records set over previous years. Now they are even more determined to beat that figure again as they raise money for Children’s Hospices in the West Midlands, Scotland, Wales and South of England that are celebrating their 25th anniversary.
BP Ultimate is BP’s range of advanced performance fuels available in diesel and unleaded. Suitable for all cars old or new, BP Ultimate cleans your engine while you drive by helping to remove the harmful engine deposits ordinary fuels can leave behind. This can result in fewer emissions, more power and improved fuel economy.
Through targetneutral, its voluntary, non-profit making partnership initiative, BP will also offset every gram of carbon emitted by this year’s Dream Rides. targetneutral is the UK’s first mainstream scheme to “neutralise” CO2 emissions caused by driving. Motorists can visit targetneutral.com to access a free online carbon calculator which will work out the amount of CO2 their driving actually produces. If they wish, they can then neutralise the impact their driving has on the environment. The average annual cost is just £20 a year.
Spanning five halls and half-a-million square feet, the Classic Motor Show also includes over 300 trade stands selling a wide range of parts, spares, tools, motoring services and memorabilia. Features include an energetic Live Stage hosted by TV motoring expert Mike Brewer, who’ll be challenging mechanic Edd China to restore and build a classic car every day before it is given away to one lucky visitor. There is also an impressive Restoration Theatre has a team of mechanics ready to show visitors exactly how to tackle all aspects of restoring a cherished classic car.
