Winter driving – Kumho holds the key

Who needs cold weather tyres in the UK?
Though generally milder than they used to be, our winters are notoriously unpredictable. For that very reason, motorists who need to be sure of travelling during the colder months, whatever the weather, would be advised to make the change from standard ‘summer’ rubber.
As the ambient temperature drops below 7 deg C, the traction and braking performance of summer tyres fall away exponentially. This is because the tread compound is nearing what is known as the ‘glass transition’ temperature – the point at which the rubber turns from a state of pliable liquid to a non-deformable solid. Cold weather tyres employ a tread compound with a much lower ‘glass transition’ temperature, ensuring a far higher level of grip in such conditions.
Kumho cold weather tyres are available from national distributor Micheldever Tyre Services. The patterns include:
KW7400 – for smaller cars on 13-15” rims
KW17 – for small to mid-range cars with 13-18” rims. This range includes run flat sizes for BMWs
KC15 – for SUVs such as Range Rover, X5 etc
KC11 – for light commercial vehicles
Strong safety and environmental commitments
Kumho has a proven commitment to European road safety. Aside of its ever increasing range of hi tech products, it is a member of TyreSafe, the organisation created to raise awareness of the dangers of defective and worn tyres which recently ran the very successful Tyre Safety Month campaign in the UK.
It is also a very environmentally conscious company and was the first tyre maker of all to be honoured with the Nordic Swan Eco Award.
