Motorpoint breaks through postcode lottery
How far you are prepared to travel will determine how good a deal you get when buying your next car. That’s according to leading industry analysts EurotaxGlass’s who say prospective buyers need to look outside their local area to get the best deals. However, with its competitive national pricing policy Motorpoint, the UK car supermarket, is already levelling the prices playing field for customers from all over the country. So far this year the group has sold a car into every postcode area in Britain.
The EurotaxGlass’s report highlights the used supermini sector which it identifies as the most active as buyers seek more economical cars. Cost variations saw a sample supermini locally priced an average 10% lower in the Midlands than the same model on sale in the South West.
Motorpoint’s own statistics from its online ordering system on the award winning motorpoint.co.uk - the most visited car dealer website in the UK - show buyers from the South, and in particular the South West, are more prepared to buy online.
Over 60% of Motorpoint’s 700 sales per week are made over the phone or the internet. The first time these customers see their cars is when they collect them.
Motorpoint Director David Shelton said: “Having our stock live on the internet has abolished the traditional ideas associated with ‘local dealers’. Our stock is so varied, so well priced and so quickly available that customers from anywhere in the UK are already prepared to travel to save thousands of pounds.”
