Personal Safety Booklet proves to be a million plus success
GEM Motoring Assist (GEM) has updated and revised its ‘best selling’ publication called Personal Safety on the Road. The road safety champion that was formerly known as the Guild of Experienced Motorists reports that around a million copies of its free of charge booklet produced in conjunction with the Suzy Lamplugh Trust have been circulated. “This means that at least three million people – mainly women – have discovered how to keep safe on our roads when driving, parking or in the event of a breakdown or accident,” says David Williams, Chief Executive of GEM.
“More and more people are living and therefore often travelling alone and we have seen a massive rise in the number of independent women who have influential jobs that involve travel,” said David. “Today’s professional woman needs to feel safe and secure while going about her business or travelling for leisure and pleasure and this booklet gives a series of important pointers.”
The booklet explains that proper preparation that includes looking confident and avoiding an aggressive stance helps to ensure confrontations are avoided. It provides examples of how to look after personal possessions, not advertising the fact that you are a woman travelling alone with spare shoes and bags left on display, how to cope with ‘road rage’ and what to do if someone in a car is attempting to intimidate you.
It covers simple car maintenance and reliability checks and in the section dealing with travelling with children it features a simple straightforward explanation of child safety laws, seat groups and the weights and age of child they are appropriate for.
The booklet is available free of charge from GEM Motoring Assist which works for the safety of all road users, by contacting the organisation at Station Road, Forest Row, East Sussex, RH18 5EN, calling 01342 825676 or e-mailing info@motoringassist.com.
