EurotaxGlass’s announces record expansion of used car database

November heralded the largest ever single month increase in the model coverage of the EurotaxGlass’s used car database, with over 1,000 new model derivatives added. A further 1,000 models will be added during December. Much of the new data will be incorporated into the pages of Glass’s Guide, the motor trade ‘bible’, and within Evaluator, the company’s PC-based valuation product.

In line with year-on-year rises in the number of new car launches, EurotaxGlass’s has accelerated the expansion of its database to maintain its coverage of all significant models now available in the used car market.

The exceptional level of launch activity – more than 270 new model ranges arriving in the UK over the past two years alone – has increased the challenge faced by the EurotaxGlass’s editorial team responsible for monitoring and reporting on changes in used vehicle prices. The editorial team now generates over 200,000 valuations each month, using market insight and experience to interpret data from a vast array of third-party sources, including dealers, vehicle remarketers, auction houses and fleet organisations.

“When we consulted earlier this year with automotive retailers to establish what they look for in a vehicle pricing guide, over three-quarters [77 per cent] of respondents rated ‘coverage of vehicle parc’ as highly important,” commented Jeff Paterson, Chief Car Editor at EurotaxGlass’s. “This simply served to confirm our objective of expanding our valuation products in line with new model introductions, to ensure that we deliver what our customers tell us they want.”

In the same survey 91 per cent of car dealers said they refer to Glass’s Guide when valuing a potential purchase, while 80 per cent use the Guide to set an appropriate re-sale price.

In 2005 EurotaxGlass’s doubled the amount of data printed on each page of Glass’s Guide, in response to the growing number of models on the market. This move enabled the Guide to remain relatively slim and to retain its ‘portability’, another characteristic valued by subscribers.
