Bosal initiative helps protect the planet

Bosal initiative helps protect the planet Leading vehicle exhaust manufacturer Bosal UK is helping to protect the planet by keeping the air clean in more ways than one.

Every day millions of Bosal exhaust systems and catalytic converters are working hard to clean up the emissions from cars and vans. At the same time, a pilot sales incentive scheme, involving a donation from the company for the sale of every system sold from its premium range of silencers, is helping to protect endangered rain forests, which play a vital role in absorbing harmful carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Last August the company teamed up with the major parts buying syndicate the Rapid Group and the renowned British-based international environmental protection charity, The World Land Trust, to raise funds to buy large tracts of rain forest. The result is that an area of 320 acres of rain forest at risk in Brazil is now safe from being destroyed for commercial gain and can continue forever to play its vital role as one of nature’s guardians of our planet.

The scheme, which was originally planned to run only until the end of 2007, has been so successful, both from an ecological and a commercial standpoint, that the partners have agreed to extend it for a further indefinite period.

Clive Wilson, chairman of the Rapid Group, said: “This is a win-win situation. We sell more of Bosal’s premium exhausts, which do a better job of keeping the air cleaner in the UK’s towns and cities, and The World Land Trust ensures that rain forest that would otherwise be lost forever is saved for posterity to help maintain the ecological balance so important to the stability of the world’s climate.”

Bosal UK managing director Andrew McCrae praised those customers who saw the twin benefits of buying a fully type-approved Bosal exhaust system and contributing to a very worthwhile environmental cause.

“By purchasing a fully type-approved system that meets the standards of the manufacturer of their vehicle – termed Original Equipment standards – they have recognised the real long-term environmental benefits to themselves and to their families,” he said.

“Buying a poor quality system that doesn’t meet Original Equipment standards required under Type Approval rules may result in a short term saving, but the system is unlikely to last as long or perform as well as a type-approved system. Such inferior systems also have the potential to significantly increase fuel costs and to risk damaging components such as the vehicle’s catalytic converter. It’s a classic case of false economy!

“The lack of type approval for exhaust systems in the UK is a major handicap for those responsible manufacturers, like Bosal, who have a real commitment to the environment.” he says. “Buying a premium system saves money in the long run and, if it’s been supplied by a Rapid Group member, it’s now helping to save the planet too.”
