Queen of Mean leaves $8bn to dogs
Last week eccentric billionaire Leona Helmsley left $8 billion (£4.05 billion) to pet charities including several million to her treasured Maltese dog "Trouble". By contrast Helmsley, also known as the "Queen of Mean" excluded two of her grandchildren from the will.Whilst it is clear Helmsley's pampered pooch will never have to struggle to pay any unforeseen vet bills, experts at ASDA are calling on households of a more humble means to ensure they have adequate protection.
With the average cost of surgery on the family dog a staggering £1312 and the average cost of dental work for the cat £233, the benefits of protecting your furry friend with a great value policy are clear to see.
ASDA's Head of Insurance, Gideon Ingham comments: "The cost of owning pets is often much more expensive than people think and can run into several thousands of pounds over their lifetime. To put this into perspective, even Leona Helmsley's $8 billion inheritance wouldn't cover the cost of vets fees should every dog in the UK be involved in a road accident."
ASDA Pet Insurance provides a number of additional benefits including cover if your pet travels abroad with you, boarding fees in the event of a holiday cancellation and 24 hour assistance if your pet gets lost or stolen.
