Great Dane's sticky situation

7th August 2008 Print
This week, Great Dane, Hector hit the headlines for swallowing a gigantic two-foot stick leaving his owner with costly vet bills. The poorly pooch had to undergo a life-saving operation to remove the stick lodged in his throat.

ASDA Financial Services is reminding pet owners to insure themselves against any unwelcome costs by taking out adequate pet insurance. For just a small monthly premium, owners can protect themselves against the rising cost for surgery, dental care and X-rays.

The cost of Hector's operation is rumoured to have been £2000, whilst the average cost of surgery on the family dog is a staggering £1312, which could leave a massive dent in family finances for the unprotected.

ASDA's Head of Insurance, Gideon Ingham comments: "The cost of owning pets is often much more expensive than people think and can run into several thousands of pounds over their lifetime. For just a small monthly premium, owners can protect themselves from any unforeseen costs and barking mad vets' fees."
