RMIF reminds MOT testers to take “Special Notice”
The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF) is reminding MOT testing stations that they risk disciplinary action if they fail to keep paper copies of Special Notices issued by the Vehicle Operator and Services Agency (VOSA) available for staff.VOSA issues Special Notices to alert MOT testers and Authorised Examiners to changes or new requirements regarding the MOT testing scheme. It is mandatory for MOT stations to keep special notices available.
Stephen Coles, RMIF Head of MOT Operations explains: ‘All stations are required to keep a copy of all VOSA-issued Special Notices available to testers, and risk disciplinary points from VOSA if they are not available.’
The proliferation of Special Notices in the last few years means that some testing stations may not be aware of what they need to keep on file. Coles commented: ‘VOSA will review the Special Notices required in the near future, as the last time they were consolidated was in 2002 and the last time a definitive list was published was in 2004.’
Coles adds: ‘Check you have the correct Special Notices for the classes you test, and that they have been read by all your current testers. It is good practice to keep them all in a single file, in order and in a place where all staff know where to find them. Newly issued Special Notices obtained via the VTS device will contain a paragraph indicating if they need to be printed and kept on file.’
