More online customers share Motorpoint’s savings jackpot

The latest record EuroMillions lottery payout has been put in the shade by preliminary 2007 performance figures for Motorpoint, the UK’s leading car supermarket group, which show the company’s customers shared in a £144m savings jackpot last year.

Around 30,000 retail customers each saved an average of almost £5,000 on their cars against the recommended retail prices to be found on franchised dealers’ forecourts.

Continuing an accelerating trend, 2007 saw more than a quarter of Motorpoint customers choosing their cars and making their purchases using a combination of web site reservations with telephone confirmations - or completing entirely internet-based transactions. In both cases, customers set eyes on their cars for the first time on collection.

2007 also saw Motorpoint repeat the achievement of selling a car into every post code area in the UK.

Motorpoint operations director Paul Winfield said: “These preliminary figures for last year show an increase in sales overall, but most exciting is the increased use by customers of our award-winning web site and the facilities it offers.

“This demonstrates to me that the buying public has ‘got it’ way ahead of some car retail industry pundits who watch online buying trends but who confuse potential customers doing research with actual customers buying a car. Our web site is set up to help people who have done their research turn their decision into reality at the best possible price. Increasingly, that seems to be what our online customers want.”
