Fashion Forward: Chloé Overview 2007

8th November 2006 Print
Chloe 2007 Preview The spring / summer 2007 Chloé collection pays homage to Gloria Vanderbilt’s flamboyant style with bright, colorful prints and luxurious embroidery mixed up with a carefree attitude. The aristocratic nonchalance of the elegant American heiress is a perfect match for Chloé’s refined bohemian aesthetic.

The simple elegance of the collection results from the very structure of the clothes, with pieces – from posh English coats and Bermudas to dresses with round collars – inspired by childhood. The looks are enlarged without being oversized which creates surprising volumes.

The waist is suspended, the bust is tiny and the sleeves sometimes a bit short while the jackets seem to float over wide flared skirts and trousers.

The fabrics, including quilted leather, summer twill and light lace, are developed in muted tones such as cream, brown and mustard – or vibrant colours – jade green, coral pink, petrol blue and sunny yellow. Strass stones shine on embroidered wood pearls and the patterns blend into patchworks.

Shoes are key to the look. The new boot is a grown-up version of a child’s Mary-Jane with straps lifted onto thick straight heels to create an innovative look. The retro vibe is reinforced by the square edges of the subtly rounded shoes, as well as the large gold buckles and metal trimmings on the bottom of the heel.

Another take on the seventies is the Bay, the handbag of the season, covered with zippers and multiple pockets. Other bags developed in vegetal leather and decorated with gold jewellery and metallic accents recall the charm of our grandmother’s handbags.
