Victoria Beckham Starts Oxfam Trend

16th November 2006 Print
Victoria Beckham Fashion Queen Victoria Beckham’s visit to the Oxfam shop in Notting Hill has resulted in a rush of aspiring fashionistas visiting the Notting Hill shop and other Oxfam stores around the country, in search of the next fashion find.

Since Victoria’s visit, the Notting Hill store has seen a 70% increase in clothing donations, and the shop now receives at least 20 bags of donated items within the first hour of opening the doors in the morning. They are also reporting a three-fold rise in people going into the store, proving that where Victoria goes the public follow. The store, located just near Portobello market, has been significantly busier since Victoria visited, and other Oxfam shop managers around the country have also reported a noticeable increase in young and trendy people visiting the shops in search of high glamour at affordable prices.

Diane O’Brien, Area Oxfam’s area manager who covers the Notting Hill store, commented: ‘The impact that Victoria Beckham has had on the store is incredible. We’ve found that people are buying and donating more and have been delighted by the quality of the items people have brought in just over the last week. We’ve had some great pieces from Dolce and Gabana, Stella McCartney and Chanel.’

Following the launch of her new fashion book, Victoria Beckham dropped into the Notting Hill shop to tell Oxfam shop volunteer, Joe Mitty, that he had won the Pride of Britain Lifetime Achievement Award. While she was in the shop she bought a black and white vintage cocktail dress and a book on the history of fashion, and placed Oxfam stores firmly on the shopping route of all aspiring style icons.

Donated items currently available in the Notting Hill store include:

- Brand new Salvatore Ferragamo leather riding boots worth £500, available for £70.00
- A Dolce and Gabbanna jacket worth £600, available for £80.00
- A Mulberry skirt worth £1000, available for £80.00

Oxfam sells £22 million worth of clothes every year, all of which is donated by generous members of the public. So if you have a Stella McCartney that you no longer wear, bring it along to your local Oxfam shop to help our work around the world. And you never know, it might end up in Victoria's wardrobe.
