A Glasgow jeweller is exclusively stocking a glamorous Mikimoto pearl necklace worn by Carrie Bradshaw in the Sex & The City movie. Laings of Glasgow is the only stockist in the west of Scotland where the piece, chosen to replace the fashionable character’s signature nameplate in the film, is available. When Sex & The City began in 1998, oversized Chanel-inspired camellia corsages couldn’t be made fast enough to keep up with demand and Carrie Bradshaw made Manolo Blahnik a household name.
Since Sex & The City: The Movie was released, the latest trend to be kicked off by our favourite Manhattanite is a rare Mikimoto pearl necklace which was handpicked by the actress herself unlike many of the promotional items selected because of the value delivered by the commercial partnerships.
Sarah Jessica Parker chose the Mikimoto opera-length cultured pearl necklace to replace her character’s signature ‘Carrie’ necklace in the movie, and a new fashion trend was born. The 8-8.5mm Akoya pearl necklace, 32-inches long, with Mikimoto’s signature clasp in 18K gold, retails for £6,760 and is available at Laings of Glasgow. The beautiful strand is featured throughout the film as Carrie’s “no outfit is complete without it” accessory.
Carrie Bradshaw wears the strand throughout the film - when she announces her engagement to Mr Big, on one of many shoe shopping trips in New York City, and even as she climbs into bed for an intimate moment with her fiancée. It wouldn’t be Sex & The City without a scene with Carrie sat at her glowing computer pondering feelings about life and love. During that scene she twirls the lustrous strand around her fingertips as if it held the answers to her endless questions.
