Strength and spirit from Matthew Williamson

The Matthew Williamson Autumn Winter collection truly encapsulates the strength of spirit of the Matthew Williamson girl, focusing on the contrast between loose, feminine volume and intense warrior-like detailing found on necklines and cuffs.

The collection draws inspiration from traditional Tibetan outerwear and is hinted at through curved seam paneling in contrasting textures, and further highlighted through the bespoke brocade piping and sequins.

A rich and vibrant palette of watermelon and kingfisher blue injects colour into the natural, softer tones of taupe, charcoal and winter creams.

The silhouette focuses on unexpected volume as seen in the luxurious fur coats, oversized mohair cocoon outerwear and dramatic concentric ripple created with printed silk georgette.

Elsewhere, tailoring is invigorated through metallic brocade as seen in the slim cut suit and tulip cocktail dress with cap sleeve detailing.

Futuristic spirograph-inspired prints are complimented by the curved ruffled panels and sequin appliqué, creating a feminine silhouette.

Beading is key for the evening; as seen in the metallic rainbow sequin floor length gown and bolero, and also daywear, where oversize panels of intricate beading updates sharp clean lines of the wool shifts and capes.

The collection incorporates the brand’s vivid aesthetic whilst celebrating traditional handiwork and modern lines.
