Westwood returns to London

13th February 2008 Print
Westwood returns to London Vivienne Westwood returns to London after an absence of almost a decade to show her A/W 2008 Red Label collection thanks to the invitation and support of the British Fashion Council. Carlo D'Amario, Managing Director of Vivienne Westwood explains: “I think there has recently been a definite shift in focus towards Europe with regards to the global business of prêt-a-porter distribution lines targeted at the younger market. We decided to show the Red Label in London as it perfectly represents the dynamic spirit of the city.”

Carlo D'Amario continues: “London has become the global reference point for creativity and never like now there is a need for a permanent platform for the promotion of dynamic British and European talent. I hope our example will be followed by my colleagues at other British brands who now only show abroad.

“I call on John Galliano, Alexander McQueen and Burberry among others to show their younger distribution lines here in London and unite to make London Fashion Week and London not only a centre for creativity but also for business. There is now definitely more interest in London from international press and buyers and a union of known British brands in London would attract more, therefore making it more cost effective to come here.”

Carlo D'Amario concludes: “Vivienne Westwood is making a commitment to show in London for the foreseeable future and I hope that I can count on my colleagues at other British brands to make a similar commitment to their spiritual home for it to be not just the global capital of creativity but a commercial centre also.”

Vivienne Westwood will show her A/W 2008 Red Label collection on 14 February at 7.30pm.
