Jamelia to host Style Awards in Birmingham

R&B singing sensation Jamelia will host Birmingham’s most hotly anticipated fashion event, The Style Awards 08, at a glamorous gala ceremony on Thursday, 23 October at the city’s Town Hall. Organised by Retail Birmingham and sponsored by Heart of England’s ‘Visit the Heart’, the Style Awards were launched in September in a bid to find the city’s most stylish stores, bars, restaurants and people.

Over the last month, an incredible 30,000 votes were cast in 15 categories by shoppers opting for their favourite designer retailers, high street stores, independents, bars, restaurants and hotels across the city.

One of the most coveted awards up for grabs this year is Birmingham’s Most Stylish Male and Female. A team of scouts have scoured the city’s bars, shopping centres and nightclubs and some 500 stylish people made it through to the online voting round with this number being whittled down to just 10.

Now in its second year, the Style Awards recognise that Birmingham continues to grow momentum as a style capital as well as the value of the retail sector to the regional economy. With extended categories and 15 accolades on offer, this year’s awards are expected to be even bigger and better.

Hosted by Birmingham-born Jamelia, who won last year’s most stylish personality and with a performance by Great Barr soul sensation Bryn Christopher, the event promises to be a glittering affair.
