Anthropologie heads to London

2nd February 2009 Print
US fashion retailer Anthropologie, a division of Urban Outfitter, is recognised for seeking out architecturally distinct spaces for its stores, which are individually and uniquely designed. In London, Anthropologie has announced that it will occupy two historically renowned buildings, one in the heart of London's West End at 158 Regent Street and the other being the Antiquarius building at 131-141 King's Road.

Anthropologie feels and operates like a collection of independent boutiques. Each London store will reflect the nature and history of its site and local environment, incorporating reclaimed materials and featuring work by local artists and artisans. Anthropologie is the largest purveyor of decorative antiques and found objects in the United States and these will also have a major presence in the two London stores.

Anthropologie at 158 Regent Street will be home to Anthropologie's signature mix of women's fashion, accessories, home decor, decorative antiques and found objects. This store will offer approximately 11,000 square feet of retail space on three floors and is expected to debut in late 2009.

To celebrate the Antiquarius building's rich past; the store's design will showcase its historical architectural elements. Initial plans reference the building's early history as a grand hall that once served as a gentlemen's club and pool hall. This store will offer approximately 8,000 square feet of retail space and is planned to open in early 2010.

James Bidwell, Managing Director, Anthropologie Europe commented, "We are delighted to have secured two fantastic locations. The King's Road location will become the spiritual home from home for Anthropologie, and the Regent Street site will be part of one of the most dynamic and vital shopping districts in Europe. We are working hard to build small, talented buying, store and visual teams to ensure we create an amazing experience for our customers when we open our first store on Regent Street later this year."
