New resources to help eczema sufferers

28th February 2008 Print
According to The National Eczema Society, as many as one in 12 adults and one in five children suffer from eczema. And what’s worse, this common condition can be exacerbated by the chemical cocktail of preservatives, fragrances and harsh emulsifying agents in many modern skincare products.

In response to a growing need for information about eczema and how to treat it, Allergenics - a range of fragrance, lanolin and preservative-free, 100% natural skincare products specially designed for people with eczema and dermatitis - has launched a consumer guide and web site entitled ‘Life with Eczema’ which offers practical advice for sufferers and their families.

Written in conjunction with Dr Sarah Wakelin, a leading consultant dermatologist, the consumer guide provides a useful source of information for day-to-day help with eczema. It helps sufferers and their families to understand different types of eczema, their common causes and symptoms. It also offers useful advice on how to prevent flare-ups, the treatment options that are available and includes a special section on childhood eczema.

In addition, the website Lifewitheczema.com will allow visitors to get in touch with support groups, air their opinions on current eczema topics through regular polls and trial products.

Dr Sarah Wakelin said: “Information is key to understanding and treating eczema and the ‘Life with Eczema’ consumer guide and web site are packed with useful advice on both the condition and how to treat it.

“Although everyone’s experience of eczema differs because its causes and treatments vary so much from person to person, there are a number of common triggers that can be avoided. The ‘Life with Eczema’ consumer guide and web site provide a jargon-free overview of eczema for people who want to understand the condition better.

“Through the web site in particular, we hope to engage visitors and encourage feedback, providing a strong online resource for people to find out more about this very common condition.”
