Alcohol Feulled Violence From Women Drinkers Almost one in ten people said they had been physically attacked by a woman who appeared to them to be drunk, according to a survey commissioned for BBC Three. The survey results will be revealed on Bashing Booze Birds at 9pm on Sunday 10 December when Nicky Taylor from the critically-acclaimed Booze Bird aims to expose the real level of female alcohol-fuelled violence.

The programme is part of Binge Britain - a week long current affairs season which scratches the surface to see why Britain is so under the grip of booze.

The results show that of those surveyed 9% said they had been physically attacked by a woman who appeared to them to be drunk; 90% said they had not and 1% answered don't know.

Of the males surveyed 12% answered yes to the question, compared to just 7% of females.

Asked if they had ever seen a woman, who appeared to them to be drunk, physically attack another person, 41% answered yes, 58% no and 1% don't know.

The survey also asked if, generally speaking, those questioned thought that the number of women getting drunk and aggressive was higher, lower or about the same as it was five years ago: 60% responded that they thought it was higher, 31% it was about the same, 2% lower and 7% don't know.

The female respondents polled in the survey were asked if they had ever attacked another person while drunk: 4% answered yes, 95% no and 1% don't know.

When asked the same question, but relating to if they were sober: 5% answered yes, 93% no and 1% don't know.

Binge Britain runs from 10 to 13 December 2006 on BBC Three.

Other programmes in the season look at binge drinkers' boozing habits, and whether they can be changed if they are exposed first hand to the effects of drinking, and the alarming trend of women who drink heavily while pregnant.

The final programme looks at which organisations and people are to blame for the binge drinking and names and shames them with Anti Social Booze (ASBOOZE) awards.
