Motorhome tyre leaflet available from TyreSafe
Tyres are the only component on a motorhome which are in contact with the road. Four patches of rubber no bigger than the palm of your hand are all that connects with the road and transmits braking, steering and acceleration, so they are vitally important. And yet they are the most neglected part of a vehicle. The latest TyreSafe leaflet provides all the essential information for owners of motorhomes, from fitting the right tyres, to overloading and tyre sidewall markings. The leaflet also explains that the tyres fitted as original equipment on motorhomes are determined by joint consultation between the motorhome manufacturer and the tyre company and take into account all aspects of the vehicle’s operation. Therefore, care should be taken when replacing tyres and it is recommended that changes in tyre size or type should not be undertaken without seeking advice from either the tyre supplier or the vehicle manufacturer. The consequences could have an effect on handling, safety and wheel arch clearances.
The leaflet also goes on to warn that in certain European countries it is illegal to use replacement tyres which differ in certain respects from those fitted originally by the vehicle manufacturer. The leaflet also reinforces the importance of correct tyre pressures to ensure maximum tyre life, optimum fuel consumption and reduced CO2 emissions.
The TyreSafe “Motorhome Tyres and Your Safety” leaflet has been produced by experts from the British Tyre Manufacturer’s Association in conjunction with TyreSafe and is available to download from the TyreSafe website at tyresafe.org/tyre-safety/
