HIV Support Centre to pilot rapid testing service

25th September 2008 Print
The HIV Support Centre is to offer a confidential Rapid HIV Testing Service from this October as part of their programme to promote and encourage a healthy and responsible approach to sexual health.

The Charity’s Chief Executive Kieran Harris said “A large part of our organisation’s work is geared towards promoting and encouraging people to make more informed judgements about their sexual health and this new service will form an integral part of our work.” He added “We have been discussing and planning this new service for the past twelve months and, to my knowledge, it is the only community based HIV Rapid Testing Service, outside of GUM Clinics, on offer in the Province.”

Initially the service will be offered two mornings per week, Monday and Wednesday, and will be offered strictly by appointment only.

The HIV Support Centre works very closely with the Northern Ireland GUM (Genito-Urinary Medicine) Clinics, particularly the GUM Clinic based at the Royal Victoria Hospital, and plans to further develop relations with the Clinics in the future.
