Move Over Suri and Brooklyn!

9th January 2007 Print
Miss Potter Actress Renee Zellweger The South Lakes is tipping Sawrey and Rydal to be surging up the top names lists in 2007 as a passion for the area is fuelled by the release of 'Miss Potter' - the film about Lakeland icon, Beatrix Potter.

Jack has been in top spot for twelve years running in England and Wales, but a long, hot summer of love and tourist boom in the Lake District are thought to have led parents to consider naming their offspring after their place of conception, a la Brooklyn Beckham.

Others parents merely wish to be part of the South Lakes scene, appreciating this will be Britain's trendiest area.

Rydal is now rampant as the main contender for Jack's throne, in recognition of poet Wordsworth's residence - Rydal Mount. There are also suggestions Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise intended being ahead of the pack, but mistakenly named his daughter Suri, rather than Sawrey, where Beatrix Potter lived.

Discerning parents of girl babies could opt for the safe option of Beatrix, but rather than risking a name that could become common, parents are likely to follow the celebrity trend of finding something unusual, like Gwyneth Paltrow's Apple and Angelina Jolie's Shiloh.

The hot money is on Sawrey to soar up the list of girls' names, as the Potter factor takes hold. This is likely to be followed by Newby (from Newby Bridge), Kirkby (Kirkby Lonsdale) and Lindeth. Other top tips are Hannakin, Belleisle, Lily-Bay, Silverhowe, Ambleside and Bracken.

Although top tipsters are banking on Rydal being the rising star in boys' names in 2007, other names on the cards include Kendal, Lonsdale, Sedgwick, Holbeck, Rothay, Natland, Kentmere and Fell, whilst those who backed X Factor runner-up Ray, could go for the stylish option of Wray.

Spokesperson Cliff Dixon, says: "British tourists rekindled their love affair with the South Lakes in 2006 and the area is set to explode on to the world tourism scene once again in 2007, thanks to Miss Potter.

"Anywhere within a 20 mile radius of Ambleside and Windermere will be one of the places in which to be seen. Naming your child after this trendy area, will be the ultimate in one-upmanship in 2007."
