Spider-Man 3 Is Box Office Hit
'Spider-Man 3' smashed a series of box office records on its opening weekend. The film opened worldwide on Friday and took a staggering $382 million in its first three days - the biggest opening ever in the history of the film industry. The movie, once again starring Tobey Maguire in the title role, began by setting a new benchmark for a single day, raking in $117 million globally on Friday.It then broke another record by collecting $151 million in North America alone over the weekend, comfortably beating the previous best of $135 million achieved by 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest'. It also smashed previous takings records in 29 countries across the globe, ranging from Italy to South Korea.
Following the phenomenal success, Sony Pictures Entertainment has announced they are planning a fourth 'Spider-Man' movie. The studio's co-chairperson Amy Pascal said: "We'll do sequels as long as there are stories to tell about the character."
The success of 'Spider-Man 3' follows the massive box office hauls of the first two films. The first 'Spider-Man' film holds the overall box office record for the US, and is the second highest grossing film of all time worldwide.
