Sheryl Crow has adopted a two-week-old boy. The 45-year-old singer, who announced the happy news on her official website, has revealed she will be taking a break from music to spend time with her new son.

Sheryl said: "Hey everybody, I am so excited to share with you guys that I've adopted a little boy. He was born two weeks ago. His name is Wyatt (after my dad) Steven (after my little brother and manager). We are enjoying some very private family time. Just wanted you to be the first to know."

Sheryl's representative Dave Tomberlin said the child had been born in the US, adding: "Sheryl is going to take some time off to be a mom."

The star made the announcement after completing a Stop Global Warming college tour. She visited 11 universities across the US to educate students about environmental issues. Sheryl, who recently said she was the "happiest she's ever been', has had a turbulent last year.

She split from her cycling legend fiancé Lance Armstrong in February 2006 after a two and-a-half year relationship. Later that month, Sheryl was diagnosed with breast cancer.

She has since successfully completed treatment and recently revealed she was ready to settle down, saying: "I'm looking for a cowboy!"

The 'Soak Up the Sun' singer is the latest in a long line of celebrities to adopt. Angelina Jolie, Sharon Stone, Tom Cruise and Madonna have also opened their homes to unwanted children.
