Kim Cattrall To Play Daniel Radcliffe’s Mother In ITV Film

Kim Cattrall will play Caroline Kipling in My Boy Jack, a single film for ITV1 in which Daniel Radcliffe will play the son she watches go off to the trenches of World War One.

The star of Sex In The City will join Daniel, in his first TV drama since finding fame in the film role of Harry Potter, as Jack Kipling and the film’s writer David Haig as Rudyard Kipling in the Ecosse Films drama.

Supporting cast will include Carey Mulligan (Bleak House, Northanger Abbey) as Elsie Kipling.

Controller of Drama at ITV, Laura Mackie, said: “Having won the heart of millions as Sex In The City’s Samantha Jones, it’s a real thrill to welcome Kim Cattrall onto ITV1. The part of Caroline Kipling will see her in a completely different role, and illustrates our commitment to bold and inventive casting.”

Set during World War One, My Boy Jack will tell the true story of how Kipling used his influence to get 17-year-old Jack a commission with the Irish Guards despite his son’s poor eyesight. Jack went missing in action and his mother and father carried out an ardent search for him, spanning many years and many miles of soul-destroying discovery.

Haig also played Kipling in his stage play version of the story at the Hampstead Theatre. The two hour single drama will be filmed in Dublin during the summer.

Ecosse Films is one of Britain’s leading production companies, with credits such as Mrs Brown, Becoming Jane, Charlotte Gray, Under The Greenwood Tree, Monarch of the Glen and the forthcoming Cape Wrath and Brideshead Revisited to its name.

My Boy Jack will be produced by Michael Casey (Middletown, Freeze Frame) and Managing Director of Ecosse Films Douglas Rae, who has executive produced all of the company’s productions. Bryan Kirk (Brotherhood, The Tudors, The Riches, Middletown) will direct.
