Guild girls go on the run!

2nd May 2008 Print
Guild girls go on the run! Guild committee members Charlotte Blight and Sarah Bradley have hatched a cunning plan to raise funds for the Guild Benevolent Fund – and Women on the Move Against Cancer, of which they’re both patrons. Charlotte explains: “We’re taking part in the Land’s End Centenary Run on 30-31 May. It’s a one-off event organised by the Motor Cycling Club, and a challenging drive that includes tackling all sorts of interesting historic hills. For more, visit themotorcyclingclub.org.uk.

“We start at two in the morning at Popham Airfield on the M3. About 1,000 miles and at around four the following afternoon,” she says confidently, “we’ll finish at Kennford, somewhere near the start of the M5.

“We’re taking a 68bhp 2.3-litre 6-cyl three-speed 1953 Ford Zephyr Mk1. A replica of Ford’s Monte Carlo winner, it belongs to the manufacturer’s own heritage collection. In other words, it’s a one-off. Not that we’re worried about stacking it or anything. No, no. We’ll be fine. It’ll be fine.

“We have to concentrate for ages and keep the car in one piece. While we’re prepared to get dog-tired, dirty, achy and lost, all you have to do is sit at your desk and flex your credit card and, if you like, read all about our adventure in a future issue of Octane magazine.”

Log on to justgiving.com/landsendcentenary for the GBF or smartgive.co.uk/showpublicevent.php?url=landsendcentenary&ms_id for WOMAC. “We’re hoping to raise £500 for each charity,” she adds, “and it’ll be really embarrassing if we don’t. So please spare us a couple of minutes and a few quid to help us on our merry way!”
