“We start at two in the morning at Popham Airfield on the M3. About 1,000 miles and at around four the following afternoon,” she says confidently, “we’ll finish at Kennford, somewhere near the start of the M5.
“We’re taking a 68bhp 2.3-litre 6-cyl three-speed 1953 Ford Zephyr Mk1. A replica of Ford’s Monte Carlo winner, it belongs to the manufacturer’s own heritage collection. In other words, it’s a one-off. Not that we’re worried about stacking it or anything. No, no. We’ll be fine. It’ll be fine.
“We have to concentrate for ages and keep the car in one piece. While we’re prepared to get dog-tired, dirty, achy and lost, all you have to do is sit at your desk and flex your credit card and, if you like, read all about our adventure in a future issue of Octane magazine.”
