Katie Melua announces one-off concert

Since bursting onto the scene in the summer of 2003, aged just 18, no one, least of all Katie, would have predicted what the next few years would hold for the teenager. Now 23, Katie has sold almost 8 million albums and in 2006, she became the best selling British female in the world. Awarded the Golden Camera Award for International Pop Artist at the start of 2007, Katie was presented with the Echo Award for International Female Artist in March 2007.
October 2007 saw the release of Katie’s third album Pictures, subsequently knocking Bruce Springsteen off the top spot of Billboard’s pan-European chart in November.
Looking forward to the concert Katie said “There is something very special about the Royal Albert Hall, it is a unique venue and you get a huge buzz playing there. We will have just returned from a tour on the continent so this will be like a “coming home” party. We're doing a bigger tour of the UK later in the year but this is our only UK show for a while.”
Asked what fans can expect from this concert Katie replied: “I love the intimate moments, where it's just me, a guitar and the audience - and the Albert Hall is great for that - but the show is also going to be quite visual in terms of production values. The band is sounding fantastic and I can't wait to play some of the stuff from the new album along with more familiar material from the first two albums.”
This month sees the release of a duet of “What A Wonderful World”, recorded by Eva Cassidy and Katie. The single is being released to raise funds for, and awareness of, the UK work of the British Red Cross.
