Kylie leaves them spinning around in Kelvingrove Kylie: The Exhibition, has closed at Kelvingrove after recording a massive 165,629 visitors since the popular attraction opened to the public on 21 September. Featuring performance costumes, accessories, album covers, photographs, music and video, the exhibition looked at how Kylie, as a performer, has used her wardrobe to create an image that is known worldwide.

Curators from the Arts Centre, Melbourne and Glasgow Museums’ staff are now carefully packing up the exhibits as they prepare to make the long, 12,000 mile journey, back to Australia.

Bailie Liz Cameron, the Chair of Culture and Sport Glasgow, welcomed the strong visitor numbers. She said: “Kylie has been a massive hit at Kelvingrove. I’m delighted that so many people, of all ages, have enjoyed the costumes, glitz and glamour associated with a truly global icon.

“Kelvingrove has once again proven itself as Scotland’s best attraction and we look forward to hosting more innovative and exciting exhibitions in the future.”

Originating from the Arts Centre, Melbourne and touring to three other Australian cities, plus London’s V&A and Manchester Art Gallery before reaching Kelvingrove, the exhibition included around 200 objects. On display were 45 costumes and around 60 photographs. Visitors could also take a look backstage and see sketchbooks, designs and video footage showing preparations for a Kylie tour.

Janine Barrand, the exhibition’s curator from the Arts Centre, Melbourne, added:

"It's been an exciting journey for us all and so wonderful to be able to share it with so many people."

The exhibition has been organised by the Arts Centre, Melbourne, and draws on the collection Kylie donated to their Performing Arts Collection. The exhibition was shown in four venues in Australia in 2005 and 2006 attracting 500,000 visitors, before commencing a UK tour in 2007.
