Russell Brand on Hollywood and Hawaiian beauties
Russel Brand has revealed he was almost fired from his latest film, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, before he’d even began filming. Speaking on LK Today, the comedy lothario said his efforts to negotiate with American movie makers backfired spectacularly.“I was making St Trinian’s before I went out there and I was really tired and doing a stand-up tour,” said Russell. “So we went, ‘Look, we don’t need to go out to America yet and make this film. Tell them we’ll come in a week, I’m tired, I’ve got a headache – I’ll come in a week.’ They said, ‘That’s alright, he’s fired’. I said, ‘Alright, calm down.’”
While filming the Hollywood movie in Hawaii, Brand insisted the barrage of exotic women almost drove him mad. “People say, ‘Oh it must have been nice to be in Hawaii’, Well no, not for three months, because it’s just relentless, tyrannical beauty. In the end you just want to look at Hilda Ogden’s nighty hanging over a bin lid in a kitchen in Durham, just to ground you. The tropical beauty in the end – it made me delirious.”
Despite loving his time in America, Brand dismissed the idea of moving there permanently, adding, “It’s very nice there, but my cat Morrissey lives in England. So, no, I’ve got too many commitments.”
