Congestion creates record commute for workers

Over half of UK motorists believe their commute to work has got longer because of increased congestion on the roads according to a new survey by Motorpoint.

The poll by the country’s leading car supermarket group found that the bulk of drivers now spend a record amount of time behind the wheel of their cars during the rush hour.

This news comes as local authorities around the country toy with the idea of introducing peak congestion charges similar to those already in place in London. For instance, in the East Midlands, councils could be set to charge £2 a journey for people travelling into Derby, Leicester and Nottingham. The fee, if introduced, could raise in excess of £125m per annum, according to some reports.
