Prince Joins UK Hall of Fame Channel 4 has revealed that Prince is the latest artist to be inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame this year. The multi award winning music icon will attend the star-studded live event on 14th November at London’s Alexandra Palace, which will also be transmitted on Channel 4 on Thursday 16 November.

As a writer, performer and producer, Prince is responsible for a rich and diverse body of work, including some of the most recognisable hits of the past three decades; I Feel for You, Purple Rain, Kiss, Nothing Compares 2 U, 1999, Manic Monday, Alphabet Street and Sign O’ the Times. In 2004, Prince’s long-awaited album, Musicology, earned him a Grammy Award for Best Male R & B vocal performance. He has sold over one hundred millions albums worldwide and this year saw his 27th studio release 3121, which debuted at number one in the US album chart.

In addition to the previous announcement of fellow inductees Led Zeppelin, and in an extremely rare public appearance, founder member and ‘guitar god’ Jimmy Page will attend the ceremony to accept the prestigious honour. Led Zeppelin are credited by many to be one of the greatest and most influential rock bands of all time. They defined stadium rock in the Seventies with a series of thunderous performances and worldwide hits such as Whole Lotta Love and Stairway to Heaven. Led Zeppelin have sold over 300 million albums worldwide and 25 years after disbanding, their music still influences bands today.

Prince will join inductees already announced so far for this year’s event – Brian Wilson, Dusty Springfield, Led Zeppelin, Rod Stewart, Bon Jovi and James Brown. These seven will join Sir George Martin who is receiving this year's Honorary Membership in recognition of his exceptional contribution to British music.

Alongside Prince, the show will also see one of the hottest new talents in the UK, singer-songwriter James Morrison performing a tribute to inductee Rod Stewart. The line up will also include inductee Brian Wilson and his band performing live and British soul sensation Joss Stone and R&B legend Patti LaBelle performing two of inductee Dusty Springfield’s greatest hits. Led Zeppelin will also be inducted in the UK Music Hall of Fame this year and rock’s latest stars, Wolfmother will perform a tribute to them.

Now in its third year, The UK Music Hall of Fame 2006 Induction Ceremony will for the second year running be staged at London’s Alexandra Palace, hosted by Dermot O’Leary. The event will take place on Tuesday 14th November and will be transmitted on Channel 4 on 16th November and on VH1 in the USA on 25th November. Radio 2’s Mark Radcliffe will be presenting his show live from the event on 14th November between 10.30pm-12.00midnight. Additional coverage on the night will also come from channel4.com/music and from Channel 4 radio.

Since its launch in 2004, the UK Music Hall of Fame has inducted 20 of the greatest names in music history including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Bob Dylan, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, U2, Bob Marley, Elvis Presley and The Kinks.
