Escape Christmas Party Hell at Solo

Critically-acclaimed Solo restaurant and New York style basement club Under Solo is spreading out the Christmas celebrations with delicious Christmas menus by Head Chef Andrew McIntosh (ex L'Escargot and The Electric) available from now until 31st January 2007, making time for those offices too busy to squeeze in celebrations before the 25th. Andrew’s contemporary Christmas menus include dishes such as Baked Salmon Coulibiac with new potatoes and beetroot salad; Guinea fowl with prunes and sweet potatoes mash; Confit of Duck leg with dauphenoise potatoes and thyme and red wine jus; Celeriac romoularde with roasted red peppers an pumpkin or enjoy Pan fried queen scallops with cracked black pepper and a vodka shot.
But the food and cocktails are not the only draw of Solo this Christmas as each evening of the week brings in fresh ideas for an inspired party, and entry to Under Solo is included in Christmas party and dinner packages:
If you have a musical office you can come and jam with professional musicians every other Wednesday as Under Solo hosts London's biggest improvised jam session Show and Prove. Camden's well-honed music talent comes together with beginners to play live music. Some regular participants include session musicians from Soul II Soul. The night's open to mixing music styles from digital, and acoustic instruments. Come in for Christmas dinner and your guest list places to the club will be guaranteed.
Alternate Wednesdays are for Jazz lovers who will be wowed by Jazz in the Basement, which sees Under Solo transformed into a swinging jazz bar. The night showcases the UK's most versatile and best loved jazz dance group JazzCotech. They are a favourite at festivals around the world including Glastonbury, Phoenix and Montreux, and have worked with the legendary names like James Brown as well as Maceo Parker and Jamiroquai.
Thursday night is Replay night mixing a tantalising foray of musicians, bands, live acts and dancers covering hip hop, bling-bling, jazz and swing. If your office tastes are eclectic then this could be the night for you – Mary from accounts will love the bling bling whilst the boss will be made generous by the swing.
Solo hosts its renowned comedy night, Monkey Business, each Friday and Saturday during the party season. You can dine before or after going down to Under Solo for the comedy with fellow merry-makers assuring your belly's full of laughs as well as food. Monkey Business brings class acts to the table, winding down from the summer's Edinburgh Festival, including Russell Brand, Harry Hill, Sarah Kendall and Rob Derring. So you're guaranteed to be chuckling at some real comics, rather than the boss's weak jokes. After the show, DJs from Signature Sounds play alternate Saturdays with DJ Lockin until late.
If you are planning a Christmas party for friends on Sunday, then you can enjoy a chilled Christmas with Groove Odyssey and London's favourite underground DJ BIZZIBEE playing funky/Latin house from 6pm. Or, on alternate Sundays things heat up with scintillating performances from KI, back from their world tour with Daniel Bedingfield, who play a fusion of Funk, Soul, Dance, and Latin.
And finally, if you are a local Camden business (or your boss is not known for their generosity) then you might like to take advantage of the Camden United nights every Tuesday. A weekly event designed for Camdens’ hard working populace with special priced drinks and plenty of laid back Camden attitude. Drinks served in its chic boutique surroundings come in at £2 for wine and beer and £2.50 for spirits and mixers.
As well as sit down Christmas lunch and dinner menus special Christmas drinks, canapé and buffet menus are available. For more information and bookings please call Solo on 020 74824611.
