Aviators set to flock to Goodwood
Visitors to the event will have the opportunity to get up close to these iconic aircraft, some of which have been recently restored to their former glory with the pilots on hand to talk to enthusiasts. Some extremely valuable and rare historic aircraft, including genuine combat veterans from the First and Second World Wars, will be seen in action in the air and on the ground at Goodwood during the Bank Holiday weekend event.
The Goodwood Aero Club Vintage Fly-In and Air Display is quickly establishing itself for bringing together a mouth-watering line up of historic aircraft. Four hours of air displays will commence at 1pm each day and the crowds won’t be disappointed, as aircraft scheduled to appear include a P51 Mustang, Spitfire, Harvard, Bücker Jungmann, The Great War Display Team, a brace of Hawker Hunters, and the mighty DC6 airliner, the only one still flying outside of the United States. New for this year is the introduction of a large model aircraft display, with these painstakingly built models visible both on the ground and in the air.
In addition to the ground and air-based aircraft on display, there will also be an abundance of other attractions to entertain the whole family. This will include an array of trade stands, archery, funfair, children’s rides and entertainment, model aircraft, aircraft simulators, a modern aircraft exhibition, go karts and many other surprises.
Advanced entry tickets are on sale via the Goodwood Ticket Sales office, on 01243 755055. Admission is only £15 in advance, or £20 on the gate, with children 12 years old or under admitted for free. A weekend ticket in advance will cost £30. For an extra £3 all visitors can ‘walk the line’ of the vintage aircraft display. The Goodwood Aerodrome will be open between 09:00 to 18:30 on both days, and all aircraft owners are invited to ‘fly-in’ in vintage clothing.
The Goodwood Aerodrome is located in West Sussex on the site of the world famous Goodwood Motor Circuit, the sympathetically-restored race track that hosts the nostalgic Goodwood Revival meeting every autumn (19-21 September 2008); an event that also includes a breathtaking aviation element, in addition to a spectacular array of competition cars and motorcycles, with star drivers and riders on hand to thrill the crowds.
The Goodwood Aero Club offers enthusiasts the opportunity to indulge their passion for aviation and flying and be part of Goodwood’s rich aviation history.
