Del Amitri Frontman Goes Solo

4th December 2006 Print
Justin Currie Justin Currie, frontman/songwriter and driving force of Glaswegian tunesmiths Del Amitri, breaks a seriously long recording hiatus with the announcement of an eagerly-anticipated handful of UK solo shows in the New Year and confirmation of details of his first ever solo release.

The dates, which will preview songs from the forthcoming "Rebound" album - to be released in the spring - are as follows, with all tickets on sale now;

JUSTIN CURRIE; JANUARY 2007

16th - Birmingham, Glee Club (box office 0870 241 5093)
17th - Manchester, Academy (box office 0161 832 1111)
18th - London, Scala (box office 0870 400 0688)
20th - Glasgow, ABC (Celtic Connections show, box office 0870 4000 818)

Tickets for all shows are available at a price of £15.

The author of over 18 top 40 hits with the four-piece - including "Always The Last To Know", "Nothing Ever Happens", "Kiss This Thing Goodbye" and the US top 10 "Roll To Me" - Currie has spent the last 4 years working on a number of side-projects, whilst never officially closing the Del Amitri story.

"I always swore to our fans that I'd never do this", Currie said, "that lead singers in groups who then do solo records are tawdry little egoists. Is there an excuse? Not really, but I love these new songs and I could never have got them to fit on a Del Amitri album. As for the shows, well there'll be a balance between what I've done in the last 5 years and raiding my back catalogue for the small treasures that I still love to play. They sit side-by-side perfectly happily - like bacon and eggs, so tell the audience to bring some ketchup".
