A Heavenly Addition For London Gastronomy

8th December 2006 Print
Archangel Restaurant, Bar and Club This week sees the launch of Archangel - a brand new Romanov-styled restaurant, bar and club situated on one of London's most stylish and sophisticated thoroughfares - Kensington High Street, W8. In its prime location, directly facing Kensington's Royal Garden Hotel, Archangel is set to provide the perfect venue for fine diners, cocktail lovers and late night socialites alike.

Owner Mark Burrage says, "I am delighted to announce the opening of the Archangel bar, restaurant and club in such a thriving and vibrant area of London. With its unique Eastern European influence, Archangel offers its customers that little bit extra: its dramatic décor complements a top quality yet eclectic food and drinks menu to suit all tastes and purse strings, both throughout the day and well into the night.

"The addition of a night club to the more traditional bar-restaurant model makes a welcome arrival to the locality. Research conducted prior to our opening showed that a late-night setting has been conspicuously absent from the area in recent times. Feedback to date has been extremely positive."

Enjoying its position on one of London's most popular shopping destinations, Archangel's vast choice of wines, beers and cocktails together with an extensive bar menu, provides all the sustenance Christmas shoppers will need, whilst being able to relax and enjoy the ambient atmosphere of London's latest hotspot.

With décor inspired by Russia's Romanov dynasty, Archangel's two-tiered interior is draped in dramatic blood red velvet curtains with cast bronze fittings, huge, weathered silver mirrors and cut-glass chandeliers, adding a true sense of theatre. Framed icons and winged imagery adorn the warm, dark walls providing the ultimate in chic for the discerning customer.

The Archangel Restaurant

Situated towards of rear of Archangel you'll find the 50-seater non-smoking restaurant. Occupying the mezzanine level, its glass ceiling provides both light and a feeling of infinite space for fine diners.

At the helm of the kitchen is the gifted Danish chef, Steffen Jensen. Using his vast talent, experience and creativity, Jensen has devised a mouth-watering menu of modern European cuisine with a Baltic twist.

His fusion-style cuisine features dishes such as fragrantly stuffed guinea fowl with langoustine fricassée, sea bass with salsify and oysters and his signature dish of slow cooked pork belly with honey baked apple.

Other menu highlights include the Archangel house and seafood platters for those who relish the full taste experience. The house platter offers a variety of charcuterie, grilled proscuitto ham and braised lamb with truffle, whilst the sea food platter conjures up fresh salmon tartar, pickled herrings, steamed mussels in saffron and lobster bisque with cognac.

And if that's not enough to tempt your taste buds, the menu also offers a tapas-style tasting menu - a six-course gastronomic journey featuring Archangel's most exquisite cuisine, including its own interpretation of European classics such as Russian borscht and sautéed foie gras.

The Archangel Bar

Lined with decadent gilt mirrors and sumptuous velvet drapes, the bar at Archangel offers an impressive, unusual and high quality selection of eastern European bottled beers rarely stocked in the UK. Hailing from countries such as Finland, Estonia and the Ukraine, you can be certain to find a beer to satisfy your tastes.

An exciting variety of vodkas and spirits are served by the glass, the carafe and bottle. And together with twelve different champagnes, they feature heavily as key ingredients in one of London's most tempting cocktail lists to date.

The Archangel Club

If, for you, the night is (always) yet young, sitting beneath Archangel's bar and restaurant is its hidden gem: a 220 capacity late-night club, perfect for loungers, clubbers and those who fancy welcoming in the next day in style. Weekly events include top bands, jam sessions and London's premier DJs.

The price of a two-course meal for two, not including wine starts from GBP24.50.
