Footloose The Musical Opens At The Lowry

12th January 2007 Print
Footloose The Musical Further to its hugely successful, extended West End run in 2006, and with some of the slickest, sexiest dance routines you can see on stage, Footloose The Musical, based on the electrifying Kevin Bacon film, has cut loose and kicks off a 2007 UK tour beginning at Manchester’s The Lowry in February.

Featuring a dynamic cast, including former Hear’Say band member Jonny Shentall, this fast-paced show is not only packed full of amazing dance but serves up some classic 80s hits. Who will be able to resist dancing in the aisles to classic hits such as Holding Out For A Hero, Almost Paradise, Let’s Hear It For The Boy and of course the unforgettable, multi-platinum title track, Footloose?

When Kevin Bacon’s too-cool-for-school teenager Ren McCormack (Tommy Sherlock) dared to dance his way out of Chicago and into small town Bomont in the 1984 movie, an icon for the 80s was born, making Bacon a global star. Footloose The Musical tells the story of city boy Ren who has to move to a rural backwater in America where dancing is banned. All hell breaks out as Ren shows the town how to move again and soon has the whole town on its feet.

Reprising his as role as Chuck Cranston from the 2006 West End run of Footloose The Musical is Johnny Shentall. Since the demise of the chart topping Hear’Say, Shentall has performed in Starlight Express and appeared as part of one of pop’s most famous families, by his marriage to former Steps singer Lisa Scott-Lee, in MTV’s Totally Scott-Lee.

Vi Moore will be played by Lyn Paul, who famously sang as a member of the New Seekers, appearing on their well known hit I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing (In Perfect Harmony). She has followed her pop success with a career on TV and stage including Emmerdale and Blood Brothers. The talented cast also includes Giovanni Spano (Fame) as Willard Hewitt and Miria Parvin (Starlight Express) as Ariel Moore.

Footloose The Musical is presented by Mark Goucher, Michael Rose Limited, Tristan Baker and Jason Haigh-Ellery whose productions include Fame, Rent, Saturday Night Fever, Love Shack, Calamity Jane and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Directed and choreographed by Karen Bruce.
