Chinese State Circus At The Lowry

The world’s greatest acrobats join forces with the undisputed masters of martial arts stretching the limits of human achievement. Legendary fabled characters from the world-famous Peking Opera - including the Monkey King, one of the most famous characters in Chinese Folklore - host the all-new production which includes a dazzling spectacle of flying warriors, acrobatic terracotta soldiers and the sensational ‘woman of a hundred faces’.
For the first time outside China the action-packed new production comes to The Lowry from Wed 31 January to Sun 4 February. The spectacular 2-hour show combines the martial arts warriors from the Shaolin Temple, artistes from Peking Opera, and acrobatic stars of the Chinese State Circus.
The artists have been selected from seven different troupes in China. There are back-flipping acrobats spiralling through rotating hoops and a dizzying succession of gymnasts catapulting terracotta jars from head to head. Further spice comes from candelabra balancing knotted contortionists, Chinese pole balancing and a lusciously set and costumed performance of the Lion Dance.
All this plus the deadly grace of martial arts from the Shaolin school of Kung Fu, Wu Shu and Qigong - an ancient discipline and defensive technique which is transformed into a dramatic entertainment rarely seen outside motion pictures or videos.
