Harrods Rocks Guinness World Record

Harrods hopes to get 2,000 guitarists to play Deep Purple’s rock standard ‘Smoke On The Water’ at next months’ event.
The aim is to smash the existing record of 1,322 set in Vancouver, Canada, in 1994.
And don’t worry about the noise – complimentary ear plugs will be offered to all participants! Guitarists taking part need no previous experience of public performance – secret strummers and part-time pickers are as welcome as professional pluckers, although players need to be “proficient musicians”.
Participation is open to guitarists young and old, male and female, experts and beginners. All they will require is a guitar.
In return they will receive a commemorative plectrum and T-shirt, the chance to win an electric guitar and other spot prizes on the day, and of course an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records.
‘Smoke On The Water’ was first released on Deep Purple’s 1972 album ‘Machine Head’ and guitarist Ritchie Blackmore’s classic intro has been voted the Greatest Rock Guitar Riff of all time.
The Harrods Rocks Guinness World Record attempt will take place from 8am,
Sunday 18th February at Harrods. To find out more or to register their interest, guitarists can visit Harrods.com.
Harrods Rocks runs from 1st February to 3rd March 2007.
