Genesis Announce Free Concert In Rome

12th February 2007 Print
Genesis Tony Banks, Phil Collins and Mike Rutherford of the iconic band Genesis have revealed that the final European show of their first tour in 15 years, entitled Turn It On Again – the tour, will see the band perform to their biggest audience ever at a spectacular free concert for more than 400,000 at Circo Massimo in Rome, Italy on 14 July 2007.

A fitting end to the European tour, the Circo Massimo is an ancient Roman hippodrome, now in ruins, that has become a public park whose sheer size (600 metres long) and beauty have already played host to major events, most notably Live 8 in 2005 and as the focal point for the World Cup 2006 final which saw 700,000 people congregate to celebrate the Italian victory.

This year Circo Massimo provides the stunning setting for the annual ‘Telecomcerto’, a free concert organised by the biggest Italian phone company Telecom, whose previous shows have included performances from Paul McCartney and Elton John.

Since the Genesis tour dates went on sale, in excess of 800,000 tickets have been snapped up. The tour kicks off in the Olympic Stadium, Helsinki on 11 June and will hit twelve different European countries.

The concert in Rome will not be ticketed and is free to all those who turn up on the day on a first come first served basis.
