Kaiser Chiefs Headline Teenage Cancer Trust Gig

13th February 2007 Print
Kaiser Chiefs join the already magnificent line-up of The Who, Noel Gallagher, Kasabian, Russell Brand and Noel Fielding, to perform at the legendary Teenage Cancer Trust gigs at the Royal Albert Hall, from 26th – 31st March 2007.

The wait is finally over. Kaiser Chiefs, one of the best live bands to come out of Britain this decade, complete Teenage Cancer Trust’s already extraordinary line up of 2007 gigs.

With their UK tour already sold out, Kaiser Chiefs will return to the TCT stage on Friday 30th March, supported by Gruff Rhys and The Cribs.

The TCT gigs have become legendary dates in the show-business calendar with massive names of rock and comedy giving their time year after year for one of the entertainment industry’s favourite charities. Now, in their seventh year, the Teenage Cancer Trust concerts at London’s Royal Albert Hall are once again shaping up to be some of the most memorable nights of 2007.

Over two exclusive nights, Noel Gallagher will be joined by a host of very special guests; a not-to-be-missed headlining show by Kasabian; Kaiser Chiefs return to the Albert Hall after their debut at the 2005 TCT shows, a night of comedy hosted by men-of-the-moment Russell Brand and Noel Fielding; and Saturday night with arguably the best live band in the world, The Who, are some of the highlights of the week with much more to be announced over the coming weeks.

Tickets for Kaiser Chiefs are available from the following outlets from 9am on Tuesday 13th February:

Teenage Cancer Trust - teenagecancertrust.org

The Royal Albert Hall - royalalberthall.com

Aloud - aloud.com

Tickets for the other shows are also available from these agents.

The Who were the first band to perform at a Teenage Cancer Trust show back in 2000, a gig which, on its own, made £1.2 million for the charity.

The gigs were the brainchild of The Who’s Roger Daltrey CBE, patron of the Teenage Cancer Trust, who has once again persuaded the best British talent available across rock, pop and comedy to give up their time to raise money for this unique charity.

Announcing this year’s line-up, Roger Daltrey said: “Over the years these shows have really made a massive difference to the money available to build TCT units in NHS hospitals. They also give our teenagers the moral support to help fight this terrible disease”.

The full line-up for the 2007 shows is as follows:

Monday 26th March
Noel Gallagher and The View plus special guests

Tuesday 27th March
Noel Gallagher and The Coral plus special guests

Wednesday 28th March
An evening of comedy hosted by Russell Brand and Noel Fielding (The Goth Detectives) with special guests

Thursday 29th March
Kasabian

Friday 30th March
Kaiser Chiefs with Gruff Rhys and The Cribs

Saturday 31st March
The Who

The aim of the shows is to raise funds for desperately needed teenage cancer units. TCT units, which are all built in NHS hospitals, are improving survival rates for teenagers with cancer by an estimated 15%. There are currently 7 TCT units - they each cost over £2 million to build and another 15 are needed to ensure every teenager with cancer can have access to one. Over the past seven years these extraordinary series of shows have led directly to the development of three major Teenage Cancer Trust units across the country.

Roger Daltrey has worked tirelessly with the shows' co-producer, Harvey Goldsmith CBE, to ensure that every line up lived up to the standards that were set from the very first year. Those who have appeared in previous years include Oasis, Coldplay, Paul Weller, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, Eric Clapton, The Cure, Madness, The Stereophonics, Keane, Razorlight, Franz Ferdinand, Jools Holland and Tom Jones. In addition to music’s biggest stars, TCT shows have played host to the cream of British comedy, including Ricky Gervais, Peter Kay Little Britain, Steve Coogan, Simon Pegg, Russell Brand and Noel Fielding.

Dr Adrian Whiteson OBE, Chairman of Teenage Cancer Trust, said: “It is thanks to the determination and tireless efforts of our patron Roger Daltrey that we are able to continue with these shows, which raise not only vital funds, but increase awareness about teenagers and young adults with cancer – an otherwise neglected group”.

Harvey Goldsmith CBE said “I am delighted that so many fantastic artists have offered their services to help us raise much needed funds and awareness for Teenage Cancer Trust. I think the 2007 TCT line up could be the best yet”.

The last 100 top priced seats on each night Noel Gallagher is performing will be held back and sold by auction two weeks before the shows, with all proceeds going to Teenage Cancer Trust.
