Keane To Headline Freedom Rocks Festival

20th March 2007 Print
Keane Freedom Rocks commemorates the bicentenary of the abolition of the slave trade in Britain. Using the power of music and community, Freedom Rocks will commemorate the momentous anniversary with a two-day festival, featuring rock and dance music’s biggest players.

Set amongst the Victorian grandeur of the recently refurbished East Park, Hull, a city central to the emancipation movement, Freedom Rocks will play host to the cream of the British Music scene. Saturday will be headlined by Brit Award winning piano-rockers Keane, whose reputation as crowd-slaying festival favourites goes before them. An 18-month world tour following their debut album and the recent tour supporting their chart topping second album, ‘Under The Iron Sea’, has sharpened Keane’s live show into an anthem filled tour-de-force.

Dance music behemoths Groove Armada, have spent the last year honing their latest stunning missive and will be unleashing a heady mix of classic hits and fresh out of the box grooves, topping the bill on the Sunday night. One of the past decade’s most successful dance acts, Groove Armada’s 8-piece live juggernaut will provide a fittingly euphoric climax to proceedings. With a host of top drawer acts still to be announced for both days, dance music fans can also find their freedom amidst the electric tunes of the Dance Freedom Big Top tent, hosting local club nights and international DJs.

As well as two days of full on festival fun, Freedom Rocks will be highlighting the Fight for Freedom Campaign in partnership with MOBO award winning charity Anti-Slavery International, who tirelessly campaign for the eradication of slavery as it exists today. Festival-goers can check out easy ways to make a difference, such as choosing fair trade products.

As the epicentre of the anti-slavery movement led by William Wilberforce, and a fair trade city, Hull is perfectly placed to hold this honourable event. Standing tall as one of the most culturally significant and musically diverse events of 2007, Freedom Rocks.

Organiser Dave Grindle from Loud Sound commented: “Loud Sound see this as more than just another gig. The Wilberforce Project as a whole attracts us as we feel that the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade in Britain deserves national and international recognition.

“As well putting the event together we are keen to play a part in developing awareness of Wilberforce's achievements and today's human rights issues. This will be an important celebration and will have a positive impact on the local community as Hull becomes the focus of this bi-centenary.“
