Definitive Drinks At Doon

1st April 2007 Print
Doon Deep in the heart of Trafalgar Square, Doon, the capital’s chicest late-night cocktail bar has unveiled the ultimate guide to what we should be drinking. In honour of Doon’s first birthday, award-winning bar tender Jim Wrigley has created the definitive cocktail list, featuring time-honoured favourites, signature tipples and hot new drinks for those who want to taste as well as look the part.

De Rigueur
For those ‘in the know,’ Doon’s De Rigueur cocktail range provides the perfect must-have accessory for a night on the town. Opt for a stimulating and energising mix of Appleton V/X Jamaican Rum, Grand Marnier, Araku coffee liqueur and fresh coffee with Doon’s Jamaican Jaffa. Alternatively try True Romance, a seductively sweet medley of Whitley Neil gin, fresh peach juice with hints of mint and vanilla, created in honour of Tarantino’s cult classic and which promises to leave you feeling all tingly inside.

Modern Derivations
The reveller who enjoys the excitement of something fresh and different will be delighted by Doon’s array of Modern Derivations. For the ultimate sumptuous Spring and Summer sipper, savour Doon’s Orchard Smash, which fuses Blackwoods gin, green apple liqueur, Maraschino liqueur, mint, lemon and sugar with fresh apple and elderflower juice. If it’s the latest in indulgent luxury you crave, devour a naughty Deabhail Beag, literally meaning ‘little devil’ in Gaelic, which combines Champagne, Chivas 12 year old scotch whisky, crème de cassis and fresh lime.

Vintage Classics
Feeling nostalgic for old-favourites lost but not forgotten? If so, Doon honours key iconic cocktails that have proven they can stand the test of time. Stars include the Million Dollar Cocktail, a combination of Whitley Neill gin, Noilly Pratt rouge, fresh pineapple juice, egg white and grenadine which was originally created by Nigiam Tong Boon, the maestro who made the infamous Singapore Sling. Also available is the Fish House Punch, a blend of cognac, Appleton V/X rum, peach liqueur, fresh lemon and sugar, topped with soda – renowned for getting George Washington so notoriously drunk at The Fish House Club in Philadelphia that he didn’t make a diary entry for three days.

Malts and All
Doon’s devotion to getting into the spirit extends to the wonderful world of whisky. Boasting a carefully selected myriad of malts with representatives from The Highlands, Lowlands, Islay and Campbeltown, the new cocktail list provides individual tasting notes to enthuse eager novices and canny connoisseurs. Whether you are won over by the perfumed fruity, nutty notes of The Balvenie 21 year old Port wood finish; the intense Auchentoshan 1973, 29 year old nectar with hints of plums, cooked cherries and a burst of vanilla; or the silky yet rich texture of the Lagavulin 16 year old malt, Doon’s whisky list promises to create a thirst for ‘the water of life.’

Doon – a destination bar worth celebrating.
