Cirque Du Soleil Brings Varekai To London
Cirque du Soleil is thrilled to announce, for the first time ever, the arrival of Varekai in London in January 2008. The incomparable Varekai is completely new to the UK and will be hosted at the Royal Albert Hall for a limited time only. Plus, in another UK first, the wonder of Delirium is set to tour arenas in Manchester, Birmingham and Sheffield this autumn.Since Cirque du Soleil‘s first UK appearance in 1996, it has presented four different productions, entertaining over 1.5 million Brits and turning its annual arrival into a holiday tradition.
From a group of 20 street performers at its beginnings in 1984, Cirque du Soleil is now a major Quebec-based organisation providing high-quality artistic entertainment with over 3,000 employees from over 40 different countries, including 900 artists.
Shawn Kent, European Marketing and Sales Director at Cirque du Soleil, said:
“Presenting two new shows in the UK is a great thrill for us. A Cirque du Soleil show has become a tradition for many in London. Those Londoners who are more familiar with our shows will still be truly surprised and captivated by the world of VAREKAI. Meanwhile, DELIRIUM will give us an opportunity to visit our fans further north with a fresh format. This is an exciting time for us as we will be presenting 13 shows simultaneously throughout the world.”
VAREKAI- Royal Albert Hall, London - January 2008.
Deep within a forest, at the summit of a volcano, exists an extraordinary world. A world where something else is possible. A world called VAREKAI.
The word VAREKAI (pronounced veraykie) means “wherever” in the Romany language of the gypsies, the universal wanderers. Written and directed by Dominic Champagne, this production pays tribute to the nomadic soul, to the spirit and art of the circus tradition, and to those who quest with infinite passion along the path that leads to VAREKAI.
VAREKAI emerges from an explosive fusion of drama and acrobatics. The impossible becomes possible in stunning displays of skill and power set against innovative music and otherworldly sets, interwoven with vivid choreography that speaks to all in the universal language of movement.
Since its debut in April 2002 in Montreal, VAREKAI has visited Canada, the United States and is currently touring the Asia Pacific before making its European debut in October 2007. At the start of 2008 VAREKAI will be presented by Lloyds TSB Corporate Markets during the months of January and February.
DELIRIUM – Manchester, Birmingham and Sheffield – October 2007
For its first ever live arena event, Cirque du Soleil has teamed up with the world's leading live entertainment company, Live Nation, to stage DELIRIUM: a groundbreaking arena production using holograms, virtual reality, multi-media sound and imaging to create a magical world with a surreal, multi-sensory mix of theatre, dance, international music, stunning acrobatics and video projections.
DELIRIUM is an urban tale, a state-of-the-art mix of music, dance, theatre, and multimedia. The show pushes the limit of arena performance through technical magnitude, human introspection and creative prowess, transporting audiences into a universe of delirious sensory folly.
Cirque du Soleil will bring this awe-inspiring arena production to the UK with a series of exclusive shows in Manchester, Birmingham and Sheffield from 8th to14th October 2007.
