Countdown To Birmingham Carnival
The Birmingham Carnival with the theme of Emancipation takes place on Sunday 5th August at Perry Park, Perry Barr, Birmingham. The vibrant procession led by the new Carnival Queen starts at 12.30pm from Holyhead Road, Handsworth and makes its way through Perry Barr to Perry Park where celebrations continue until 9pm.The Carnival, supported by Birmingham City Council which runs every two years promises to attract thousands of people on the streets to watch the lively procession make its way from Handsworth to Perry Barr Park.
Visitors can expect a fun filled mix of entertainment, with stalls housing everything from arts and crafts, to Caribbean, local and international cuisine, plus non-stop live music all in the spirit of Carnival!
Councillor Dorothy Wallace (Chair of the Carnival Committee) says:
“Birmingham Carnival is a joyful event, which brings the communities of Birmingham together. This year it will be bigger and better than ever and continues to grow in size with the support and enthusiasm of the Carnival Committee Organisers”
Headlining the main stage will be Maxi Priest plus live music from artists across the world, family fun, plenty for everyone’s tastes.
There will be road closures to facilitate the procession. The Procession starts on Grove Lane, Church Lane, Wellington Road and Walsall Road. Closures can be expected along these roads between 12 Noon and 15:30hrs.
A residents parking only "exclusion zone" will also be put in place on the day around Perry Park, just past the One Stop shopping centre. This will operate between 09:00am to 9:00pm. All residents living within this area will be sent appropriate passes and details before the event.
Free Public Car Parking is provided for Carnival Visitors at Alexandra Stadium and Perry Hall Playing Fields, appropriate AA signage will direct visitors to the FREE public car parking areas in close proximity to the event site.
Visitors to the event are advised that Tow Trucks and Traffic Attendants will vigorously patrol the area around Perry Park to tow away and ticket those vehicles that are parked illegally, dangerously or inconsiderately for local residents.
